Ms. Crawford
I have been a teacher in Baltimore City for seven years. I love to tell the story of how I started out. As a 23 year old, fresh out of Morgan State University, and working as a Human Resource Team Lead at Target. My school hired me the weekend before school started in the Fall of 2014. I was inexperienced and had little to formal training (my degree was in English not Education) on the responsibilities of teaching. Regardless, I dived head first and rolled with the punches the field gave me.
7 years later, I am still here. I would say miraculously, but I often think where else would I be? This field has molded me into the woman and educator I am today. My love for children is unmatched to any feeling I have ever had in this lifetime. Which always affirms to me I’m doing exactly what God intended for me to do.
When I made the decision to pursue a career in education my ultimate goal was to illustrate to scholars the power of history and writing; I aimed to only show them literature is engaging. Throughout my career, my mission has evolved tremendously. Every opportunity I’m granted to interact with scholars and their fruitful minds is a moment cherished in developing their light.
Relentlessly, I work in challenging them to understand, shape, and alter the perceptions of their own narrative. In a city where so many of my students see no light out of the darkness, teaching has granted me the opportunity to change that. Everyday my students inspire me to build on my voice through my instructional practices. I value every experience with them, and feel it is my responsibility in building their platform to impact a community that has tremendously impacted me.
This page is dedicated to my babies. Throughout the years they have allowed me to nurture their seeds, and in return have given me a blossoming garden over the years.
My goal is for this page to bring inspiration and content for teachers to utilize in their learning environment. Let’s continue building a shared community of resources for our classrooms.
